Tim Allen, president, Allied Equipment Services, Haskell, N.J., has joined the ARA of New Jersey board of directors.
A U.S. Military Academy-educated, former U.S. Army captain, Allen established his equipment rental company in 2015 following two deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan with the 10th Mountain Division and attendance in business school.
“I saw momentum forming around supporting veteran-owned businesses. I felt I could succeed at running my own business — that’s always something I was interested in doing. So, I decided to put effort into it and it’s grown into the business it is today,” Allen says.
Allied Equipment Services’ offerings include telehandlers, light towers, message boards and brooms for utility projects. “We have a number of different pieces of equipment in our fleet, but we’re growing. I really like the telehandler market and we supply very cost-efficient LED light tower rentals,” Allen says.
Allen learned of an opening on the ARA of New Jersey board of directors through an outreach from Steven Lusby, general manager, Grand True Value Rental, who also works out of Hackettstown and serves as ARA of New Jersey president.
“I appreciate that everyone I’ve met through the ARA [American Rental Association] has been welcoming and supportive,” Allen says about answering the call to serve others within the industry. “I enjoy giving back to organizations that I care about. I’d like the opportunity to not only share my experiences, but to also meet other rental professionals and learn about their operations and how we can work together to continue to make the industry the best it can be.”
As he acclimates to his role with his ARA state chapter’s leadership team, Allen says “I’m hoping to learn as much as I can and to help with any initiatives that can best promote and support New Jersey’s rental community and the greater ARA.”
