A message from your regional director

Hello, American Rental Association (ARA) Region Nine members! I hope everyone had a successful summer and stayed busy. Even though we are dealing with challenging inflation and supply chain issues, it is reassuring that larger national rental companies are predicting strong growth for the rest of the year. I think we can all find hope in that news.

To make sure our operations stay strong and focused on a successful future, I encourage all members to use the great tools ARA has to offer. From the ARA Job Portal to the employee development and training offerings through RentalU and all the networking events, ARA really has something for everyone. We just have to take a few minutes to look at the ARA website. ARA is providing new options all the time. If you haven’t taken a look lately, you will be surprised at all the resources available to you as members.

I would like to call out one such resource — the ARA Certified Mobile Elevating Work Platform (MEWP) Train-the-Trainer program. The ARA of California teamed up with ARA to offer this to members in August. We had a great turnout for this first-class educational event.

The ARA of California offered a lot of training this summer at the California Rental Association yard parties. In addition to the MEWP training, we brought in Detective Sebastian Reed of the Cypress Police Department, who shared how we can protect our operations from theft. Thanks to all who were involved to make these events happen. They were great. We also offered a night of baseball fun at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Everyone who attended had a blast. It was so great to reconnect with rental colleagues and their families.

Regarding regulatory issues, ARA has been working tirelessly to represent us and give our members a voice when it comes to the California Air Resources Board and the future of forklifts in the state. Watch for future postings on how those talks proceed.

Also, don’t forget to look into ARA’s new solution for your group health care needs offered through Allstate Benefits. It could provide you the cost savings, flexibility and quality health benefits you need. For details, click here.

The big event you won’t want to miss is The ARA Show™. This one-and-only buying, education and networking event for the equipment and event rental industry will take place Feb. 11-15 in Orlando. Housing has been open for some time. You should have received your online Show Planner by now, so check out all that is in store for you and register beginning Oct. 18 at ARAshow.org. This is going to be a great event that will offer so many opportunities to make your business more efficient, effective, productive and successful. I can’t wait. I hope we can have a large contingent from Region Nine attend the upcoming show.

Before I close, I would like to offer my congratulations to Rob W. Pedersen, vice president, A Tool Shed, Santa Cruz, Calif. He was the rental professional from our region who was profiled in the “12 to watch under 40” section in the September issue of Rental Management. This is such an honor. Way to go, Rob. Read more about him in this newsletter.

Remember, if you have any questions or concerns for the national board, don’t hesitate to contact me.
