Greetings, rental operators across the American Rental Association’s (ARA) Region Three. I hope you are all ready for a busy spring season, or maybe it’s already in full swing where you are. If you attended The ARA Show™ in New Orleans last month, you heard about ARA’s ambitious new initiatives. If you didn’t, check them out below.

ARA Certified Forklift Training. This comprehensive program delivers a Forklift Train-the-Trainer program and a Forklift Operator Training program that satisfies OSHA requirements and other industry standards. It’s designed to establish rental industry standards, professional development and deliver what is needed to train equipment rental staff and customers competently and safely. If your operation involves forklifts, you have to check this out.

Foundations of Safe Tenting. Created in partnership with the Manufacturers and Tent Renters Association (MATRA) and the Advanced Textiles Association (ATA), this course enables tenting professionals to recognize the basic terminology, practices and procedures that produce safe and efficient tent installations and dismantles. Learn more and get started at RentalU.

Born for This. During the show, ARA also unveiled its new Born for This campaign. Born for This is an element of ARA’s workforce development efforts. It’s an advertising campaign built around relatable moments from childhood that can eventually develop into a calling as a career. The goal is that it delivers the message to consumers that a childhood passion can turn into a profession (ideally, in the rental industry). Born for This features professionally-produced, rental segment-specific advertising spots designed to hit consumers where they consume media today and resonate with those looking for a rewarding career. You can learn more about it — and view the ad spots — here.

Also during The ARA Show, our region’s own Jeff Crotto, CERP, of All About Events, Jacksonville, Fla., took the gavel as ARA’s 62nd president. Congratulations, Jeff! I know that with your experience in our industry and as a leader in the association that you’ll do a great job during your term.

I know things can get hectic during the busy season, but I urge you to take the time to stay plugged into your industry peer network through ARA’s state-level activities this spring. Here in North Carolina, we’re doing an indoor karting get-together later this month. Georgia is planning a series of socials through the summer. Florida is hosting its annual Summer Getaway in Clearwater. More events are being added all the time, so watch your email and plan to take part if you can.

Until next time,

John Scott, ARA Region Three director
